Tourism Crisis and Media Resources and Training
TOURISM TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND

The challenge
Tourism Tropical North Queensland engaged Articulous to deliver a crisis communication toolkit for tourism organisations and operators based in the Far North. We also ran crisis communication and media training exercises for tourism operators in the region.
Our action
The toolkit and training has helped to upskill tourism operators and industry leaders to prepare for, respond to and recover from a range of disasters and crises.
Articulous developed two comprehensive crisis communication toolkits, tailored to their specific readership. The first toolkit was for regional tourism partner organisations, complete with key actions to take in a crisis, quick tips, recovery campaign ideas, and messaging and communication tactics. The second toolkit was targeted at tourism operators, providing key actions to take in a crisis, quick tips, messaging for stakeholders and support service contacts.
The outcome
Following the production of the crisis toolkits, two crisis and media training exercises were held in Cairns and Port Douglas with 11 tourism operators participating. Both the toolkit and training exercises were well received by participants, who concurred that they would recommend the training to others.
Articulous also produced an animation advising tourism operators’ on how to use videos on social media to encourage visitors to return to their region once it is safe to travel following a disaster or crisis.
The project was funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) via the Queensland Department of Communities
